L is for Laughter and Learning

Play should be an enjoyable time for you and your child. “A playful attitude enables the mind to remain open to explore and imagine a wider range of possibilities when seeking answers to new experiences” (Koralek, 2004,p.50).  Outdoor play allows for freedom and escape from the structured environments of school and work. Children learn through play.  Children “learn best by playing because the can actively and naturally explore, discover, experiment, and practice their new skills.  In supporting children’s natural desire to play, adults encourage them to discover things for themselves and to continue to build their knowledge base” (Theemes, 1999, p.3) Children can observe, investigate and draw their own conclusions about their experiences as they come in direct contact with nature.  As children watch weather change, observe ants marching in a line, discover the gravity of a slide, count wild flowers in a field, children will broaden their understanding, appreciation and respect for the world around them ” (Theemes, 1999, p.5).  Experience the fun and learning together.
